The Cochin based Amalgam Enterprises has been in the food business since 1977. It has grown steadily through the eighties and the nineties through strategic diversification into value added seafood and other related industries to emerge as one of the largest frozen seafood exporters from India, with prestigious joint ventures with Mitsubishi, Nissin and Itochu of Japan, Hindustan Unilever and Indian Hotels (Tata Group).
The Chief Promoter, Mr. A J Tharakan, a Master in Economics from Delhi University, started his professional career with a brief stint in Indian Civil Service, later was a senior manager with Brooke Bond India (Hindustan Lever) for 10 years and went into business in 1977.
Today the Amalgam Enterprises is one of the largest processors of freeze-dried products in the world, supplying food ingredients to multinationals like Nissin Foods, USA, Nissin Foods, Japan, Maruchan Corpn., USA, Sanyo Foods, USA, Nestle and others, and also the leading supplier of Food & Feed Ingredients to major international companies both in India and abroad.
